Course summary
This course will focus on some of the complex issues underpinning the provision of health and social care within the UK today. Renewed emphasis is placed upon raising the awareness of dementia and mental health with dedicated opportunities for individuals to pursue research in the field. The course is designed to meet the needs of those employed in baseline caring roles who seek to improve their own knowledge and understanding of the sector. It will teach you the skills needed to improve your own professional practice and collaborate with others in the field.

The course includes the following subjects: dementia awareness, mental health issues and wellbeing, psychological perspectives in health and social care, communication, safeguarding, research design and inquiry (health and social care), sociological perspectives in health and social care, issues of leadership and management, person centred practice – holistic care, examination of legislation and quality protocols/standards, personal professional practice portfolio.
Assessment method
Assessment will be through a mixture of practical assessments, in-class tests, coursework, reflective practice, presentations and seminars.

Course summary
Become a Social Work England accredited social worker, equipped to practice in a range of settings, with the BA (Hons) in Social Work. Professional Accreditation
The professional status of social worker is conferred by Social Work England. Successful graduates are eligible to register with Social Work England as a qualified social worker.

Biomedical Science -BSc (Hons)

Course summary
​
Biomedical scientists work at the cutting edge of research and medicine, helping to solve some of the most threatening diseases and conditions facing humankind. Biomedical science has laid the foundation for medical breakthroughs in everything from COVID-19 to cancer, diabetes to heart disease, bone strength to brain development and more.
St George’s Biomedical Science BSc degree provides a fascinating insight into the biology-based science behind health, disease and medical intervention. It covers a diverse range of subjects, from fundamental aspects of cell and molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and genetics to the investigation of the disease process, including diagnosis and treatment.
In Years 1 and 2 you'll build a solid knowledge and understanding of cellular, molecular and medical sciences. In Year 3, you’ll have the chance to focus your learning in either healthcare or medicine, graduating in one of 10 specialisms. There is also the opportunity to undertake a Professional Training Year within industry, research, government or the NHS. We have strong links with professional bodies, including the British Pharmacological Society (BPS).
The course will prepare you for career options in medicine, research, management or education, as well as specialised laboratory work and areas such as forensic medicine, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, clinical trials coordination or biomedical product marketing. The transferable skills you will gain on this degree will also allow you to consider wider careers options such as law, finance and teaching.
